The festival of the Pan American and Parapan American Games Lima 2019 is already lived in Cusco. On Thursday, July 4, the Imperial City was the scene of the first celebrations for the reception of the Pan American Olympic Torch and the Pan American Flame, symbols of the multisport event that will start this July 26 in the capital of Peru, Lima.
The Panamerican Flame was moved from Mexico, where the New Fire Ceremony took place. This celebration was held in the Mexican city of Teotihuacán with the aim of uniting two millennial cultures typical of America. This was stated by Carlos Neuhaus, president of the Organizing Committee of the 2019 Pan American Games Lima.
And the place selected to light the Pan American Lima Torch 2019 in the Imperial City was the imposing Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. There was the respite that will allow to light 26 cities in Peru. The ceremony was attended by Carlos Neuhaus, Neven Ilic (president of Panam Sports) and renowned Peruvian authorities such as Martín Vizcarra (president of Peru), Jorge Muñoz (mayor of Lima), Darwin Baca (mayor of Machu Picchu).
The respite of the Pan American Torch included a small theatrical staging in which Genaro Contreras played a chasqui, an Inca runner who was part of the Tahuantinsuyo’s post office system and Edwin Cobo as the top leader of the Inca empire. The participation of the first conductor Fernando Astete, who was previously the director of the historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, was also attended.
In this way, the Peruvian capital prepares to welcome the competitors of America, moving the Pan American Torch throughout the South American country. The imposing Huayna Picchu hill of the renowned historical sanctuary was the backdrop of the multisport event that acquires greater enhancement by having as its starting point one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, in the words of the Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra,
Finally, the opening ceremony of the Pan American Games Lima 2019 will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, bringing together more than 6,000 athletes from 41 countries in the Americas. Among the sports venues that are part of the renowned event are the Villa El Salvador, Punta Rocas, the Regional Sports Villa of Callao, the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Complex and the National Sports Villa (VIDENA).
