The Intipunku is located 2,600 meters above sea level, on the flank of Machu Picchu mountain. The ascent from the citadel to Intipunco and the return journey takes about two hours. The trail is not difficult, only slightly inclined, and the views of the surroundings and the photographic opportunities are spectacular.

Inca bridge

A 35-minute trek from Machu Picchu S will take you to the opposite side of Machu Picchu Mountain. From there you can see the San Miguel Bridge over the Urubamba River and part of the hydroelectric plant – now converted into a lake bed due to the climatic phenomenon of El Niño. This bridge is a masterpiece of engineering, carved in protruding rocks embedded in the hillside, which served as protection to the sacred citadel.

Huayna Picchu

This mountain is located towards the north of the citadel and appears in the background of the classic photos of Machu Picchu. At the top you can find platforms built to avoid erosion and also to cultivate gardens. Visitors can reach the summit by following the path on the left side of the mountain. The ascent is a long stairway with numerous steps carved into the very rock of the mountain. The slow ascent takes about an hour. Hours of entry: First group at 7.00 a.m. (up to 200 people).
