Changes for the entrance to Machu Picchu 2019

The tourist management of the ruins of Machu Picchu will make changes in the schedules, the time of permanence and the routes of access. Last Friday, November 9, the Foreign Trade and Tourism Commission of Peru presented a report in which the new plan for the reordering of the flow of visitors and improvement of the service provision of the citadel is exposed.

Schedule

More than 2500 tourists enter Machu Picchu in two shifts: from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 12 p.m. at 5 p.m. However, this will change as of January 2019 because the time ranges will be modified. According to this report, the first income will be from 6 a.m. at 9 a.m., the second from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and third from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.

The modifications in the time of permanence of the tourists will reduce the current schedule of attention in two and a half hours. That is, only the entrance to the historic sanctuary would be allowed until 3 p.m. instead of the current closing, which occurs at 5 p.m. Although this measure is under evaluation, it is said that at the beginning of the reordering the closing would take place at 5:30 p.m.

Time of permanence

The maximum time to visit the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu is 4 hours. Such measure will make the income to be made with more order; that is, we will say goodbye to the long queues and the eternal congestion in the access roads. Of course, the rule that requires tourists to be accompanied by an official guide and in groups of 20 people will not be modified.

The measure that will be established in 2019 was not only created to improve the order of entry and time of stay in the citadel. The authorities also seek to improve the experience of tourists, making only 2,500 people visit the archaeological site simultaneously.

Cost of entrance to Machu Picchu 2019

Most tourists visit Machu Picchu on the day, from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. and precisely, the measures adopted by the Foreign Trade and Tourism Commission of Peru have the purpose of encouraging visits during the second and third hours. Moreover, tourists will be offered tickets to the Manuel Chávez Ballón Museum and the Raqchi archaeological center.

In 2 years, the cost of tickets to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu will change according to the shifts. A differentiated rate will be created to promote visits in the afternoon. The report indicates that the entrance during the first shift will cost 20% more, the second hourly rank will keep its regular price and while those of the last hour will be discounted 20%.

New access routes

More circuits and tours to the Inca citadel will be implemented during June, July and August, months in which the tourist flow increases. In addition, we will work to offer different alternatives to tourists who want to know a little more about the archaeological complex. That is, more ancestral routes and visits to landscapes close to the historic sanctuary will be integrated.

These changes were born so that tourists get a complete experience during their visit to the historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The measures include promoting the route from Km 82 to Km. 127. In this way you will know the ritual path of Incarakay, the Temple of the Moon, the Archeological Complex of Choquequirao and the snowy Veronica.
